WHAt DO THE KNOTTS SCARY FARM SLIDERS WEAR ON THERE HANDS AND FEET?

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF GLOVES AND KNEE PADS THEY WEAR.

WHAt DO THE KNOTTS SCARY FARM SLIDERS WEAR ON THERE HANDS AND FEET?
Who are the Knotts Scary Farm Sliders, is it some kind of Clown act of some sort?
Reply:Yeah i'm a slider over here on the East Coast at one of Cedar Fair's new parks. I've been doing this for a while now and people ask this question alot.

On our feet we wear steel toed boots. After a while the leather will wear away from the contact with the pavement so that the steel is exposed, and eventually this will cause our toes to emit yellow sparks.

On our knees we have thick construction kneepads equipped with a heavy vel-cro. On the vel-cro we attach what is called a "puck". This is a carbon-plastic, extremely dense, piece of composite material which enables the majority of the slide.

On our hands we have black baseball-esque gloves and wrist guards that let us slide on all fours.

Aside from all of that we have our respective costumes, which I'm sure you've experienced, and all or most of the gear mentioned is sealed over with black tape or gaff to keep the pavement from ripping it off mid-slide. Different sliders add different flairs, or will have extra gadgets to enhance the effect of the slide.

Anyways, all of this is how we roll on the East Coast. If any Knotts sliders catch this, definitely hit me up, cause ive never had the chance to see you guys over there. If you all have special brands or tricks, then holler. Plus I'd love to exchange stories.

Hope this sheds some light Dustin!

Just found out my red eared sliders like turkey ham... keep giving them turkey ham? bad or good?
v.bad its high in protein stop feeding them this, oh and I find they like anything you put in there tank
Reply:I think it would have way too much salt for a turtle.
Reply:To the extent feasible, please do try Reptomin, Wardley, fruit, vegetable, avoid pea, somewhat, %26amp; please do note that spinach is dangerous.

Meat has been okay f/ mine; however, check further:

My red-eared is "HopiaKuta"; my screennames are, generally, "hopiakuta", "kutahopia".

Thank You.
Reply:its too much for a turtles. do you have any vegetables [romaine lettuce, carrots] and fruits around the house? if you do, feed your turtles them and when you get the chance go to the store and buy some more floating sticks. good luck!
Reply:It may be OK as a treat but not as a primary food. Try to balance the diet with leafy, dark green vegetables, whole animals (other than goldfish), and occasional bits of liver.
Reply:It's the meat they like, and fowl is not bad, but I'd switch to fish meat if I were you. It's closer to their natural food. Whole feeder gold fish are even better, because then they'll get the nutrition from the bones, guts, etc.

I got 2 baby red eared sliders, and their shells are kind of soft, should i be worried?

i just got them, and i don't know if they're suppose to have soft shells. i noticed when i accidentally held one of them by one side of their shell, and i felt that i was able to squish its body by pressing on its shell. and also, they're not eating. should i be worried?

I got 2 baby red eared sliders, and their shells are kind of soft, should i be worried?
i think that babies have soft shells that harden when they grow older, but im not sure.

if they arent eating, what are you feeding them? try giving them some fruits and veggies
Reply:i used to have two baby red eared sliders and their shells wern't soft. i don't think it is normal but you could check on some turtle websites and if they say its not normal of course you should go to the doctor. ~good luck~
Reply:All baby turtles have soft-shells and are very sensitive, so be careful not to drop them or hurt them because the shells are soft.

Can ababy red eard sliders live with guppies guppies?

can baby turtles live with guppies? can any harm can be caused

Can ababy red eard sliders live with guppies guppies?
No, it's best to have the sliders alone in their own tank. They will get big rapidly and eat guppies....

Ohhh you don't care about the guppies....well that's a tasty treat for the sliders. No guppies won't hurt your sliders.
Reply:You can try. There is no guarantee they will survive. Anything in the tank has the potential to become food. You can try to put in ones that are bigger than the turtles head, but I've seen babies play tug-o-war, just so they could share a yummy snack! It won't harm the turtles just the fish! Guppies, Rosie Reds, Ghost Shrimp and aquatic snails are some safe fish to feed. Watch out for goldfish they are too fatty and offer no nutritional value.

EDIT for your additional info: NO the turtles will be fine. Guppies are great feeder fish and on the safe feeding list.
Reply:It will provide your turtle with both food and exercise as it chases the guppies around to eat them
Reply:yes they can without any problems on the turtles side but the guppies have a problem with getting eaten.lol

Really the guppies are cheap enough and provide good nutrition for the turtle. and they are fun to watch will they last.
Reply:the turtle will be fine but the guppies will be dead
Reply:The turtles may eat the guppies, but it isn't a sure thing. I fed my red-eared slider goldfish when I wanted some entertainment, but there was one in the cage he seemed to be friends with, so he didn't eat that one and they lived in harmony for months, while I continued to put other goldfish in his tank and he quickly devoured them. I know, this sounds crazy to anyone knowing that turtles don't have the mental capacity to do such a thing, but it's true. If you really care about the fish though, you might want to buy a 12 cent goldfish and test it out in the turtle cage to see what would happen, before you kill your fish testing it.

Are red eared sliders sold at petco, petsmart, both, or neither?

I live in Southern California if that makes a difference

Are red eared sliders sold at petco, petsmart, both, or neither?
You can search the net for a turtle or reptile rescue in your area to find a lil guy that needs a good home
Reply:I think I've seen them at both stores. Good luck :)
Reply:I have seen them at Petco, however I believe Petco gets them from local rescues (at least here in NY), and then sells them for a huge mark up...so go online and find a rescue. They sell them as tiny babies in chinatown in most big cities, and tell people they don't grow, even though females eventually reach the size of shoe boxes. Accordingly, a lot of people give them up, and they are easy to find cheaper (or free) than at petco.

Look for one with clear eyes, a clear vent, a hard shell, and no bubbles coming out the nose/wheezing.
Reply:At Pet-co I've only seen them at. I was going to get one but pets-mart didn't have them. Petco is the most likely of a choice to get a red-eared- slider. THEY ARE SO COOL

Will red ear sliders eat sucker fish?

i have 3, one year old red ear sliders, they're happy, they're healthy.. but my question is.. i was reading something online about sucker fish and how they can help keep the tank clean and more healthy for the turtles.. now i wouldnt mind having them in the tank, but my res turtles are pretty vicious and will eat just about anything, so im afraid that the second i put the sucker fish in it will b eaten.. so my question is, will my turtles eat the sucker fish. im sure they'll want a taste.. but will the sucker fish be eaten? especially because i know they dont move much, and make it very easy for the turtles to nibble on. Also, besides sucker fish.. what other fish besides guppies and goldfish would make good roommates for the turtles(without getting eaten, of course)? [Please be as detailed as possible with your answers, Thanks!]

Will red ear sliders eat sucker fish?
If they see it move, they'll eat it. We feed live minnows to the turtles at the store I work at and I'm pretty sure they wouldnt' find a pleco much different and would eat it. (p.s. your "sucker fish" is called a plecosomus) I wouldn't put any live fish in there... if they are too small, the turtles will eat them and if they are too big they will create a lot of waste and just be more to clean up after...
Reply:they will prod try to eat it and theres a chance the barbs in there fin will lock in there mouth and both well die if not a trip to the vet
Reply:If they can catch it, yes. I had one once that fished for goldfish.

I have 2 red eared sliders in a 55 gallon tank, are there any frogs that i can keep in there with them?

It really depends on how big your turtles are. But, realistically, I wouldn't add any other creatures in the tank with them as they will probably try to eat them. I keep rosies in the tank with my red ears, but they are eating, not for pets.

If you are set on getting frogs, I would keep them in a separate tank. You may come home one day and find them missing.

Good luck :~)

I have 2 red eared sliders in a 55 gallon tank, are there any frogs that i can keep in there with them?
Only if you want them to be turtle food.

BTW, your turtles will outgrow a 55 gallon tank pretty quickly (within a couple of years).
Reply:Not unless you want them eaten. RES turtles are fairly predatory critters, they've been known to attack ducks.
Reply:Frogs and Turtles

Frogs and turtles are popular pets, but since they are amphibians their requirements differ from that of the common aquarium inhabitants. Some turtles and frogs spend most of their time in water, while others a mostly land dwellers. Always investigate the natural habitat and living conditions for your frog or turtle before your bring it home. It is also important to remember that many species will grow quite large and might outgrow their first home.

Most turtles can be comfortably housed in a 25 or 50 gallon turtle aquarium. A turtle aquarium must contain water as well as dry land. (Keep in mind that tortoises are land creatures that should not be kept in a turtle aquarium.) Arrange the substrate in a sloping manner or pile up stones in order to make it possible for the turtle to stand on solid ground with its body fully submerged in water and its head above the surface. The water dept must be deeper than the length of your turtle, which means that you might have to adjust the water dept as the turtle grows. Compared to fish, turtles require plenty of strong light and the turtle aquarium should therefore be equipped with a fluorescent light. Turtles are cold blooded and need a good heater in the turtle aquarium to stay warm.

The African Dwarf Frog, the Oriental Firebellied Toad and White's Tree Frog are three suitable beginner species if you are interested in keeping a frog. The African Dwarf Frog (Hymenochirus boettgeri) lives its entire life under water, but must surface once in a while to breath oxygen from the air. African Dwarf Frogs can be kept in the same aquarium as fish, as long as the aquarium is large enough and the fish compatible with frogs. African Dwarf Frogs are active and fun to watch. If a pet shop offers you a docile Africa Dwarf Frog, it might very well be extremely stressed or ill.

The Oriental Firebellied Toad is another option for beginners. Just like the African Dwarf Frog, the Oriental Firebellied Toad is active and energetic. If you keep it on a strict cricket diet it will require vitamin supplements to ensure optimal health. It will do fine in room temperature as long as you avoid the extremes and keep it out of draft.

White's Tree Frog is also easy to keep for beginners, but it is less active than African Dwarf Frog and Oriental Firebellied Toad. This species need a humid environment and should be kept in a damp tank. Since tree frog live in trees, the tank where you keep your White\'s Tree Frog should be a so called Arboreal Tank. Your frog will need at least one tree branch to climb on; preferably one with several smaller braches. Live plants are also recommended since they will help to keep the environment humid. Placing a bowl of water at the bottom of the tank is not enough; your frog will not go for a swim when it begins to suffer from dehydration. Frequently spraying the tank with water is therefore necessary and sturdy live plants are advisable.

Reply:Probably not. We have 2 female red-eared sliders, now in a 200 gal stock tank, and we have been unable to keep much of anything in there with them, except some very fast feeder goldfish.
Reply:NO!! THEY WILL GET BITTEN BY THE SLIDERS.....
Reply:yes you can

you can put any regular frog, unless the frog eats meat

How could i add knee sliders to leathers that don't have velcro for them?

Try putting Velcro on some straps that will fit around your knees. After putting on the pants you can put the straps on and Velcro the sliders to the straps.

How could i add knee sliders to leathers that don't have velcro for them?
Are you good enough of a rider to actually need them or are they just for show?
Reply:Most sliders come with a velcro patch to glue or sew onto your leathers. You can also buy these from motorbike shops

Also bike clothing suppliers on the high street will have a list of people who are capable of modifying your suit to fit, contact one of these.

What do you prefer french doors or sliders and why?

Sliding doors ... Super Trendy!!!!

Achieves ultimate minimalist Clean %26amp; modern look

Sliding door system that maximizes available home space by eliminating the need for traditional swing doors.

http://www.arredoitaliano.com/catalogo_S...

What do you prefer french doors or sliders and why?
When you say sliders I assume you mean Pocket doors. the big advantage of pocket doors is that the doors take up no space when open. The disadvantage is, if you have beautiful doors you cannot see them when they are open.
Reply:I love french doors because they are clean and more elegant for a space whether you are doing country or traditional. Plus, they are beautiful to look at every morning!
Reply:French, because they're elegant and provide more walk way
Reply:Sliders-- French doors are prettier, but they take away from the usable space in the room. You can put furniture right up against a slider and still be able to use the door. Much more space efficient in a small room.
Reply:I myself like the French doors it adds environment to the rooms, also the value of the house goes up, I'd only use sliders for a patio, if a patio is involved then the sliders are your best bet, but both are nice, its all up to the home owner. you want my advice visit a house that has sliders and a house that has the french doors, check out the neighborhood, many French doors come with bolt locks , not many sliders do, so its up to you, what do you prefer.
Reply:French doors... they're just so much prettier and im sure they add more to the value of the home.
Reply:I have had both and I prefer French doors. They look nicer and are easier to operate.
Reply:Believe it or not, I prefer both... I love the look of French doors and sliders take up much less space... but have you considered this: You can use French doors by making them slider pocket doors??? This means you get the much higher value of French doors and the maximization of room space by having the French doors slide into pockets in the wall...

Why are WhiteCastle hamburgers called,"Sliders"?

When I lived in StLouis we called them sliders because they were so greasy they'd just slide down your throat and right out the other end. No effort needed.

Another good nickname for them was "belly bombers".

God, I miss St Louis.

Why are WhiteCastle hamburgers called,"Sliders"?
I love the movie Harold and Kumar go to whiteCastle!!!

kickass!
Reply:NYers CALL BURGERS...BURGERS, BUT, WHITE CASTLE WE CALL BELLY BOMBERS MURDER BURGERS AND IF YOU GET A SACK WE CALL IT A SCROTUMABURGAS! NOW IM HAVING A WOOLY FOR THEM LIKE A PREGO. MY BF IS SLEEPING HE WORKS AROUND THE CLOCK AND I HAVE TO DO MY WORK ALSO TO CATCH UP, BUT I LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME TO ANS. QUES. SUCH AS YOURS!
Reply:slide through your gut, right out your butt
Reply:Because they are freaking little greaseballs...they slide down your throat..

We also called them "ratburgers"

Great for drunken hunger pangs
Reply:They're greasy??
Reply:They are so small that they can slide down you throat
Reply:besause it goes right throu you
Reply:they're so greasy, they just SLIDE down your entire digestive tract and out in no time.
Reply:Because I heard that they give people the "runs". lol I ate there once when I was in NY.
Reply:Its because they are mini burgers so they supposedly dont require chewing they are so small but i wouldnt suggest sliding it down my thraot whole if i were you,,,,
Reply:They are so small they can "slide" down your throat.
Reply:They are called sliders due to the size. Many small sandwiches are called sliders. For example, a barbeque restaurant may serve pulled pork sliders.
Reply:because they are so small and awsome
Reply:You slide them out of the little boxes you get them in.
Reply:They go down fast, and come out even faster.

But I still love them.
Reply:All the above answers are correct, but, there are three other interesting bits of trivia. One, there are many other places where burgers are called sliders, mostly by the locals in each area. Two, tha militar tends to call any burger a slider, and three, there is a resaurant up here that calls thier mini burger sliders on thier menu.
Reply:Dude, SERIOUSLY, I didn't know that! But man are they good! I do love cheeseburgers, but I prefer WhiteCastles with no cheese; it seems like the cheese in this case kills the flavor of the burger instead of enhancing it!

What happen to Rembrant Brown in Sliders?

I watched the last few moments of Sliders,as rembrant slides into the red vortex leaving maggie, quinn n the girl behind while the old guy dies.what happen to him ?

What happen to Rembrant Brown in Sliders?
He at least appeared to sacrifice himself to kill the aliens. Here is an account of what happened:

In the final episode, "The Seer", Rembrandt found a biological weapon there which he intended to use against the Kromagg invaders on Earth Prime. At the same time, a psychic (who already knew a lot about the Sliders, suggesting the psychic's powers might be real) predicted that the next time the Sliders would slide, they would die. Rembrandt decided to slide alone for this slide because the Kromagg sliding equipment being used was heavily damaged and would only accommodate one person. The others believed they might have altered the future predicted by the psychic by having only Rembrandt slide instead of all four of them. Alas, the seer died before he could answer them.

The episode was originally supposed to be a season finale, but the series was cancelled afterwards so Rembrandt's final fate was never revealed.

I have 3 baby sliders and 2 always like to swim and one is always basking and never swimming. Why is that?

Like humans turtles have their own personalities. Some swim more then others and some bask more then others.

Don't worry about it..I would be more worried about the ones that don't bask..I have 3 that bask all the time and one that doesn't!!

Do a daily check of their shells..for spots, softness etc. If you notice something unusual then worry!!

Basking fights off parasites and disease.

Some turtles are just plain lazy and some are not...

As long as they are getting the proper diet, water changes etc...they should be ok....

I have 3 baby sliders and 2 always like to swim and one is always basking and never swimming. Why is that?
Most sliders bask mosrt of the day. So this is normal. Dont worry,
Reply:the 2 who swim are squares, the one who soaks up the rays is gangsta.
Reply:each turtle has their own personality. it's normal. some like to bask more than swim and others like to swim more than bask,
Reply:Its just his personaltiy. They like to bask.

What are the most durable brand Frame Sliders?? Vortex?? LSL?? Puig?? your opinions?

Im getting frame sliders put on my bike and I want the most protection I can get...I have a discount going through Vortex, but if they are no good I need to know....What are the BEST/WORST brand Frame Sliders??? From those of you that have unfortunately had to put them to the test!!

What are the most durable brand Frame Sliders?? Vortex?? LSL?? Puig?? your opinions?
Most all are made from Delrin im not sure if thats how you spell it but. so there all going to all do the same thingfor the most . Many think that there made to save fairings thats not the case thats why there called frame sliders. they protect your fram from long slides that could cause frame to wear. WhATEVER you do dont get the NO CUT frame sliders that avoid cuting the fairing they break off a lot of times. I was a honda service advisor
Reply:I can. I can honestly tell you they all seem to do an adequate job to protect your more expensive parts. But (an that's a BIG but) there is NOTHING that will be absolutely the ultimate in sacrificing itself all the way and still be of use.

A note on that; the VORTEX ones are relatively soft and do seem to deform when impacted faster. They are the least expensive out of the bunch also.

Yes, they had to be put through the test! RACING ONLY!
Reply:you said it, hopefully it won't matter,

I don't think anyone on here can honestly tell you what the best ones are, but they're a fairly simple product, so I wouldn't doubt that it won't matter too much, none of them will break no matter what, get what looks best.
Reply:They are all made basically the same way, but i have known a lot of people to lay there bikes down and the frame slider was the first piece to crack and offered no protection. if your looking for the most protection I would look into a crash cage.
Reply:Shogun billet frame sliders are the dogs watsits

Ever wonder why 99% of reptile questions are about red eared sliders and iguanas?

its because they are the hardest to take care of. snakes dont get asked about like sliders do because what do you do with a snake? feed once a week. check water bowl, turn on and off heat light. thats it. but sliders and iguanas are the hardest to care for , and people dont realize it till its too late. scroll through the questions here in reptiles and look at all the people freaking out because they have no idea how to take care of their turtles. its sad. the thing that keeps me copying and pasting for them is im hoping someone will learn something. on average theres 2 red eared slider questions per page, that could easily have been avoided if the owner googled... . red eared slider.. too easy right? i guess not.

Ever wonder why 99% of reptile questions are about red eared sliders and iguanas?
both are cheap and easy to get.... most pet stores i stop into have a nice amount of both, and a cheap price for both.... reptiles seem to be all the rage these days and everyone wants one... maybe since these two arent as expensive as others they are the popular choice... they probably dont care about how to take care of them at first and buy them on a whim and expect yahoo answers to solve their care problems...
Reply:I cant say much, except that people who just get a turt cuz its cute need to be hit over the head with dead baby turtles that other people killed...

I started my reptile infatuation with a western painted turtle, about 2" long, beautiful lil guy. Started him in a 20gal, upgraded to a 55gal in the first three months. Now I also have a RES(adopted) that lives with my painted in a 90gal horse trough. They're tough to take care of, but you just have to use your HEAD.

I just set up the tank, put a basking spot up so he could get out of the water, and put a filter in there. He's fine, his shell isn't even messed up.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you're going to get a pet, know what its about. Right now I am researching sugar gliders and plan to get a pair in september. God knows I want one NOW but I need to get all the info I can(Been researching for 6 months now!).

Sorry I got so off topic... I'm just like you though, for about three months I was addicted to this site, trying to help people with their reptiles and such, but I learned you cant change stupidity because half of the time they wont listen.

Good luck in your quest to save RES and Iguana-kind.
Reply:I HAVE NOT EVER SEEN A QUESTION , OR HEARD ONE IN GENERAL CONVERSATION, SO I THINK YOU ARE MISTAKEN!
Reply:i wouldn't say they are the hardest, they are the most intense. i have an iguanna , don't know squat about a turtle, but he is not hard just intesnse. people get them couse they are cheap and widely given false information on how to take care of them. when i got my iggy i was mis informed. i bought him for my hubby as a graduation present. at the store they said he was the easist to take care of that night i did my homework and found out that they lied. within two days i had him set up properly. if i didn't love all creatures and make a promise when i get animal to do everthing in my power to give it a happy healthy life i would have given up long ago on my picky iggy. conclusion it's a learning process you can only absorb so much at a time , these animals have a ton to try and absorb. but once you get a hold of it most people have no problems:)
Reply:It's not because those species are the most difficult. It's because those are the species that are most "accessible" (cheap) to inexperienced herp keepers.

The real mystery is why people with herp care problems don't look in one of the many good books available; they ask here instead, expecting to be spoon fed simple answers, without providing nearly enough information to solve the problem. And, most of the answers people give here really suck.

Ryan, I didn't say they WEREN'T the hardest (although, there ARE more difficult species out there) I said " It's not because those species are the most difficult".

And, there ARE a lot of questions about ball pythons.
Reply:I can't imagine what would happen if dogs and cats were so inexpensive that there would be no reluctance on the part of the impulsive people in pet stores. When I had an iguana I would actively go to pet stores to help the parents of begging children (usually around Christmas) understand what that 3 inch lizard turns into in a DOZ years. I would even wear the jacket I used to handle him as his claws had shredded it.
Reply:They are difficult to care for but they are cheap to buy which makes them popular and people don't bother to research the animal they are buying so when something goes wrong they ask instead of researching.
Reply:Hello Ryan...CUZ PEOPLE ( especially parents ) DO NOT DO THE HOMEWORK BEFORE they get the pets/reptiles..whatever..too many just think "Awww how cute, I want one," or their kid does %26amp; they haven't a clue, stores like Petsmarts, etc sell %26amp; they haven't a clue..cuz all they thing about is $MONEY$ !!! One thing you forgot tho VERY IMPORTANT...all reptiles/amphibians... ( other then snakes ) need UV light - plant grow light too %26amp; they can NEVER be housed in plastic tanks or containers or any kind ..EVER !!! I'm guessing I'm burning up the reptile site/store we use ..lol..but they do so care about the reptiles %26amp; proper care am hoping they don't mind...much ..LOL, all anyone has to do is READ !!! Mostly %26amp; most improtantly... tho, those of us who are in the know, can try %26amp; educate people, maybe even make some ..THINK , before they buy any, pets ;) We can only hope !!! Take Care:)

How long do red eared sliders usually live in captivity?

Most can live up 45-60 years if cared for properly. However if proper care isn't given most won't survive 2 years. The best tips for a long lived red eared slider is to provide at least 12 to 8 hours a day of UVA bulbs, keep temp at around 75 degrees daily. If your red eared slider is under 3 years old never let them go into hibernation. This will cause them to starve to death since they don't have the proper fat to live off of. Hibernation is not required but some like to provide it. Also feeding at least 20% of the diet as live food (worms, beetles, ect.), and keep in a tank that's at least 30 gallons. I hope this helps.

How long do red eared sliders usually live in captivity?
20-40 years depending on care, of course there are always cases where some live longer than the norm.
Reply:about 55 years
Reply:i know a lady,she had one since 1968...
Reply:google it
Reply:They can live a very long time, 40+ years, but most, especially babies live only a few months because people do not know how to properly take care of them.
Reply:They pretty much live in an aquarium with several other turtles. But they can be kept as single pets. They are also very inactive if kept by themselves, but more active when near others.

Why dose my red ear sliders neck opens underwater ????

My red ear sliders neck opens underwater . I have never seen Nessy neck open before this year ,I have had her for about 8 years .I think it's just gills but I have never heard of this before .Any help would be great thanks~David ()_*

Why dose my red ear sliders neck opens underwater ????
What?! your red ear slider's neck "opens" underwater?? it cant be. Red ear sliders do not have gills , turtles breathe through their nose.. the fact that you had her for 8 years means that it must be quite big already.. hmmm.. could it be that it's just the flabby skin around the neck?? they have them since young , but yours could show more since it's 8yrs old.. or does your "open" her neck means the stretching of her neck?? if that's the case , well , it's perfectly normal turtle behavouir..
Reply:The fact that you have had a turtle for 8 years and you think your tutle has gills scares me.

Thats all I have to say

Are red eared sliders allowed to eat celery?

Yes but its doesn't really do anything for them. And don't feed turtle pellets as a main meal for them, red eared sliders need variety. Turtle pellets should make up 25% of their food, not a lot. That one guy was very wrong :]

Are red eared sliders allowed to eat celery?
technically they can. making sure their cut in small slices. but celery is 100% water. its pretty useless. stick with tomatoes, carrots, squash, skinless tomatoes and grapes, bannanas, skinless apples, bloodworms, krill, and waxworms.

use all those for treats.

reptomin turtle food is a main source of calcium and vitamines, and should be fed as his/her main meal

i know you just asked about celery but i felt i had to fill you in on what i know about turtle food

good luck
Reply:as long as you get all the strings out of it. the strings might choke them. but i stick to lettuce and tomatoes and thin carrot slices. and the occasional krill or feeder fish treat.
Reply:no the CIA is going to stop them

Did you call White Castle Sliders/Sliders before the company did?

We did......because of the after effects.

Did you call White Castle Sliders/Sliders before the company did?
Great memories when a kid - dad worked late into the nite. Sometimes he'd come home at midnite or 1AM with a sack of 'em and wake my brother and I up to have some "Deathburgers" with him and mom.

Only started calling them sliders when in high school with friends coming home from concerts really late and with just a little too much beer. :) Could have been either the burgers or the beer that gave them the name.

Ahhhh, what memories.
Reply:No. I like White Castle hamburgers.
Reply:So did we.
Reply:nope rectum rockets or belly bombs
Reply:My dad calls them gut busters.
Reply:mmmmmmmmmmm those little burgers are soooooooooo good lol now im hungry! Gotta go now lol I never had any problems with them. You people had some crappy luck! lol
Reply:All I know is the first time I had them I was heading to the airport to get on a plane after visiting a friend in Chi town for a Bears game. Let's just say it wasn't pretty and I ended up having to move to the back of the plane near the commodes! Then and only then did I learn the meaning to White Castle's sliders! Not to worry I got my friend back when he came out to see me and I took him to Runza Hut!!!!
Reply:Guess what?!?!? Those Slyders are 80 years old. The company is not actually the meat that makes the burgers. The first White Castle opened in 1921 Wichita, Kansas.

Personally I like the Chicken Rings and I've never had a "gut buster" of problem eating them either. If you aren't used to greasy foods then you might encounter a "gut buster". Anything greasy will do that to you if you aren't used to it. (Personal experience)
Reply:You all are too funny --- I just visited a state where there are White Castle (food places) on every corner.and we didn't ever eat there, because I heard them refered to as both (sliders and gutbombs) ...

ROFL!!!

What about the Ranch or Tobasco flavored chicken bites???

what a trip!
Reply:I've always called the place White Trashle but that is mainly because of how trashy the restauraunts are rather than the food.
Reply:We called them 'gutbombs'.
Reply:That's a black eye for marketing. The White Castle Hamburger experience is tainted by the 'slidder' term. I always found it to be insulting, disrespectful %26amp; fully unfounded as such a cheap word to associate with one of the most unique, iconic 'happy days' realities of my adolesence. Of course, the frozen variety available in the Honolulu King St Foodland were never as good as the Chicago Stockyard Fresh variety out at Archer %26amp; Polaski! Ummm, WhiteCastle, gurgule..

Red-eared sliders algae and feeding question!?

I just got two red-eared sliders about a week and a half ago from a friend of mine's mom. They have algae growing on their shells (had this when I got them), which I have found out from reading on here is pretty normal, but do I need to wash it off, and if so what is the best way to do that?

Also, what are they supposed to eat? they are about a year old, but are tiny turtles. My friend's mom gave me a can of reptile food pellets, but it seems like they should be eating more than that. What else can they eat, and how much should they eat? Also, how often should I feed them? thanks!

Red-eared sliders algae and feeding question!?
you should get a soft tooth brush to brush it off. this would also prevent the water from growing algae and also prevent this the turtle from disease.RES they eat pellets, vegetable, fruits and animal protein. personally i feed my turtle every other day, with different food. i would feed them one day with pellets, one day vegetable, one day fruits... if they don't like the food you give them , then give then pellets. i would feed about 5 to 7 pellets a day. and for all the food, after giving them after an hr ,you should remove the,. i also find it easier if you feed them outside the tank so they don't mess up the water. this website would tell you what kind of vegetable, fruits and animal protein to feed http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?...

my turtle really like the grapes, bananas, cherry and any green leafs

anyway good luck with it!
Reply:well have some experience with these situations.

for the algae:

you should get the sink running with luke warm water and put the turtle under it. and just kinda rub off the algae. make sure the water is not hot! you want it a little warmer than cold.

and so it doesnt come back make sure the turtles have a rock or a floating dock in their tank to get on top of to get out of the water and bask in the sun with UVB lightbulb as their "sunlight". its a substitute for sunlight since their are inside. im assuming haha.

okay so i have a large couple year old turtle and a very tiny turtle that i do not how old it is but im guessing its around your turtles age.

it doesnt really like the pellets. so i feed him worms everyday. about 1 or 2. the more you feed them the faster they grow. so i raise their food little by little. at first i would give him 1 small worm. then i worked up to 1 long worm. then 1 long and 1 small. and now hes to about 2 long or even 3. haha. and feed them daily. once it gets to where you feeding them alot i would move to 2 small meals a day.

oh and you can also dump some guppies in their tank and let your turtles eat them when they want. get small ones so their able to eat them

when turtles get older like a couple years old they start eating more of the pellets and veggies. and you should leave lettuce in their for them to graze on.

sorry for my answerr being so long. but i hope it was helpful.

;)
Reply:Algae isn't really a problem unless it bothers you, and in that case a nice scrub with a toothbrush should take care or it.

For feeding, youre right, they should be eating more than just pellets. Turtles will accept greens, but at only a year your sliders are still in need of a high protien diet. They should be big enough for feeder fish which will give them excercise, entertainment and good nutrition. Then theres meal worms, earth worms, crickets and other similar insects. They arent really picky. Just dont fall into the dog food trap or feed them only pellets... mine rarely ever get pellets and dont seem to care for them.

How often should you feed them? At roughly a year they dont need constant attention anymore. Theyre glutons and will keep eating as long as youre giving them food. Theyll probably even start begging at the front of the tank when you enter the room. Just give them small ammounts of food periodically, every day or every other day. They dont need a strict schedule. Just watch the area where the legs come out of the shell - if fat is spilling out then youre feeding too much. Im not worried about you feeding too little because when those little guys are scratching at the glass for food its hard to resist.

Well I hope that helped and enjoy your new pets, they can be a lot of fun to have.
Reply:use a soft bristled tooth brush to wash the algae off. It may not all come off though.

They can eat the pellets, but also will eat bugs, worms. leafy greens floating in the water. I would feed them a couple times a day and try to leave some greens in the water at all times. Some will eat them and some will not.

Also, make sure you have a UV light for them as well as a basking light.

Where does the cattle used to make White Castle "sliders" come from? If you were a cow would you be insulted?

Do only reject cows get turned into sliders? Does White Castle

corp. own some hole-in-the-wall stockyard in Jersey or something? If I were a cow, I would be highly insulted to know

i would be made into sliders. I would protest, and hold out for

at least Appleby's or Chili's.

Follow-up question: What kind of poor hapless cow gets ground up into the meat at the bottom of Taco Bells' Chalupa supreme?

The same cows that get turned into sliders, or their cousins?

Are they really stupid cows that walk around aimlessely, always bumping into the electric fence enclosure? LOL

Too G D funny! I agree - given that the meat is even from a cow. They must take the skin, useless cuts, and hoofs and put them in a blender with a dash of road kill. There oughtta be a law.

I have 2 red ear sliders. sometimes they do this weird "dance" with eachother by standing on their back legs

and shaking their front little flipper paws. it's kinda cute. is it some kind of mating dance?

I have 2 red ear sliders. sometimes they do this weird "dance" with eachother by standing on their back legs
it is a mating dance!!! your right. If they are both males, then you got something different there. that could be a sign of aggression, because there is not enough space for both of them in that teeny aquarium. but if both male and female, yep. expect.turtle babies.

Instead of hitting the batter after the one who homered off of you,how about not hanging sliders or?

breaking balls? Your thoughts on this please.

Instead of hitting the batter after the one who homered off of you,how about not hanging sliders or?
I couldn't agree more. I'm not sure what the lesson is supposed to be with hitting the next guy...

I have no problem with pitchers busting someone inside, or hitting a guy if he's leaning over the plate. But if you have to hit the guy who comes up after a homer, then it's probably a sign that you're not a great pitcher, and that there are likely to be more homers in the future.
Reply:Once a batter homers off of you, you definately should not bean him on the next at bat, that's just bad sportsmanship. Personally me, I'm a fireballer, so whenever someone gets a big hit off of me, I never bean him. What you should do is throw a brushback pitch. Throw him some chin-music to show him you're not gonna back down. This way, you intimidate him and stay in the game.

The idea of not throwing hanging breaking balls is a good one, but at the same time it's hard to complete. Hanging breaking balls tend to be mistakes, unless you're not a very smart pitcher. The only way to completely avoid hanging breaking balls is to not throw any at all, which makes it much harder to be a dominant pitcher, unless you have a lot of pitches besides breaking balls.

When you bean the batter, you show not only that you have a bad attitude, but that you are just afraid to face him again, this encourages the batter to belt another home run off of you. If you throw the brushback to back him off of the plate, you actually intimidate him instead of just pissing him off. After that all you have to do is just pitch him hard on the wrists and use your change-up and breaking balls on the outside corner of the plate.
Reply:If they took throwing at the other ream out of the game, Bob Gibson would not have been a great pitcher. Same w/Nolan Ryan, Clemens or any other great fireballer. It's part of baseball. Always has been. Great terms like "brushback", "chin music", "bail out", etc. I'm a purist %26amp; it was OK in baseball for 100 years. Why change now? Just because the roid rage causes the fights? Test on the spot fo steroid or HGH to see if that's the cause. if so....
Reply:A lot of times, hitters get too 'comfortable' at the plate and aren't afraid to dig in or dive into the pitch so they can drive it into the outfield. A properly placed "high and tight" fastball will remind hitters that this baseball is being thrown HARD and the pitcher owns the plate.

I put them in a nice and clean tank but they still wont eat. I tried all sorts of food but they just wont eat it.

My two Red Ear Sliders are floating around in food and not eating. Help me please someone!?
I used to have a red eared slider turtle. I had the same problem. I finally took my turtle to the vet and she told me that they are very picky eaters. Try feeding your turtle the green reptomin food. My turtle liked that one, although your turtles may not. Also, it can take a turtle up to 3 weeks to try a new food. You have to just keep trying. My turtle also wouldn't eat if I put him in a separate tank for eating. The vet reccommended this so the tank water he lived in wouldn't get dirty, but he wouldn't eat in anything other than the tank he was used to, so if you don't mind cleaning the tank more then you can try that. Aquatic turtles are prone to getting diseases and having medical conditions. I would suggest taking them to the vet just to have them checked over to make sure there is not an underlying cause that is making them not eat. They also wont eat if the water is not warm enough. Buy a book on Red Ear Slider care, it can be a great resource!
Reply:This is happening because they're cold. Wild turtles go into a period called "hibernation", this happens in the winter and they dont eat much, if not at all.

I have two RES's myself, and they dont eat during the winter team due to Hibernation. This happens because the temperature gets cold and the water is cold.

Just like bears and penguins, they don't eat in the winter because of the cold.

Try chaning to water to mild water and feed them after 15 minutes.

Best thing to do is buy a heater and thermometer for them and keep the temperature at 75 degrees. This way they'll be warm and be happy too.
Reply:You need to check with a more thorough web forum that includes dedicated RES owners, such as on kingsnake.com. There are simply too many reasons why they might not be eating and you haven't given enough details to answer the question.

It could be lack of UV lighting, it could be illness, it could be water chemistry, it could be water temps or basking temps are too low, it could be the food, it could be that they were in hibernation mode, or they could be stressed like most reptiles do after a move to a new habitat as reptiles need to feel secure with their surroundings to eat. Just go to a forum where only RES owners who have been doing it for years can answer you, and you need to provide more background info when you do.

Appliance sliders under washer.?

This may be hard to understand, but please try to help. I have a stackable washer and dryer. I live in a small apartment. It has always been against my back door. I always had appliance/furniture sliders underneath the washer to get in and out of the backdoor. No it did not slide while washing, only when I moved it and very easily. Anyway the painters came out to paint and they moved the washer. It hasnt slid since. I've tried new sliders, I even waxed the floor figured it would make it slide but it didnt work. Any ideas, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please help.

Appliance sliders under washer.?
They bent it up only way is to tip it on side and realign the wheels, make the painter come back and do it, I know not possible

I have 2 red eared sliders in a 55 gallon tank...I need help?

They're fecal matter is just piling up even after a good clean, can anyone recommend a good filter or any advice on how to make it not such a poop storm?

I have 2 red eared sliders in a 55 gallon tank...I need help?
There's several things that can help. First off, a good filter. Fluval makes a good filter but a All Living Things brand also makes a good filter. Be sure to change the filter once a week at least, more if needed. You could add a plant called Anacharis which eats their poo and looks good in the tank. You can use Exo-Terra's Biotize which is micro-organisms that eat the poo. You can use snails that help with keeping the tank clean, but the best bet is to spend a little more on a good filter.
Reply:Red Eared Sliders need 10 gallons of water per 1 inch of shell. They also need water as deep as can get and a basking platform and uva/uvb lighting.

You need a good filter as well to help keep down the waste. For more info, I have listed the best turtle forum to ask questions on.

Red Eared Sliders And their Basking Area?

I HAVE TWO RED EARED SLIDER TURTLES

ONE IS FULLY GROWN AND THE OTHER IS A YEAR OLD.

I JUST GOT THEM A NEW LARGE ZOO MED BASKING FLOATING DOCK. AND THE BIG RED TURTLE WONT LET THE LITTLER TURTLE ON IT.

IS THIS NORMAL

ARE THEY JUST PLKAYING?

Red Eared Sliders And their Basking Area?
I have a basking rock and my three turtles will all stack on top of eachother on it. It's pretty cool. It might be more difficult for multiple turtles to climb one of those floating dock without it making the other turtle slide around, I've never seen my res be territorial, but I'm sure it's possible.
Reply:Sounds like- no wait- it IS territory that they are fighting about. The dominant one is showing his dominance. Except for getting 2 separate cages there is really nothing else that you can do. However, please make sure that the littler one has a 'land' area or another surface in that tank that he/she can climb on to when not allowed in the floating dock.
Reply:yep the big ones marked his territory, get something for the little guy
Reply:This is normal. Unless you have a 150+ tank, keeping 2 turtles together is not recommended. They can get VERY territorial. Expecially since they're sizes are so different, the little guy can get very hurt. If I were you I would either build a large indoor/outdoor pond, a larger tank, or another seperate tank (75 gallons+) to keep them in, (in the first 2 you can keep them together, third tank keep them seperate)

Which of the following are the two forces acting on the sliders?

electricity and gravity

friction and gravity

friction and electricity

gravity and acceleration

friction and acceleration

Which of the following are the two forces acting on the sliders?
Probably friction and gravity. It's not at all clear what your question refers to, but an object that is sliding across a surface would normally have at least three forces acting on it: gravity, normal, and friction. Gravity is the force that all objects feel, pulling them to the center of the Earth (or the nearest celestial body). The normal force is the reaction force that typically opposes gravity, and it is a contact force with the surface below the object; the normal force always acts perpendicularly to the surface, and it can oppose forces other than gravity as well. Friction always opposes motion and is proportional to the normal force; friction cannot act on an object if there is no normal force, so it is definitely incorrect to say that only two forces act on the sliders. A sliding object may also have an applied force acting on it, but your question doesn't make it clear.

Just because you were given what you wanted, doesn't mean you were given what you needed. Report It

Reply:Irresponsible little so and so, never thought to think about how to care for an animal that's spent all it's life where it's at before being abducted and probably put somewhere where it doesn't even have enough room.

GO BACK TO THE COTTAGE AND LET EVERYTHING GO BACK WHERE YOU FOUND IT AND LEARN SOMETHING ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT AS A PET BEFORE BUYING CAPTIVE BRED.

Look, I know it's tempting, I've done it myself (with a little more knowledge on care obviously, since I grew up having snakes and stuff), I used to be able to go out and find what I wanted where I knew to look, as did my brother and all his friends, and all their friends, etc., etc.

You know what happens now if I go anywhere looking for snakes including the areas where there were ALWAYS snakes? I can't find crap. Oh, sure some black racers here and there, but between irresponsible collection of wild specimens and unregulated growth populationwise in my area, there's just about nothing left.

You'll regret it.
Reply:You probly need to take them back where you found them. You have no idea how to care for them. Even if you did, chances are they will not survive in captivity. Shame on you. Don't ever do that again!!!! To properly care for all of these creatures, you're looking at $1000 easily. That's going cheap on everything!!!! Go let them free. Then go to the pet store and buy a captive bred and learn how to take care of them properly!!
Reply:Take them all back and let them go..By taking a wild animal out of his natural habitat you destroy every thing down the line of that animal the circle of life..Take them back right where you found them never take a an animal out of the wild..
Reply:What were you thinking? I can't believe you took all those animals without knowing how to care for them. Take them back to their homes if you want them to live.
Reply:return them to the wild!!! how would u like to be a tiny animal and be caught by a giant human and taken away from your home??
Reply:Hey,

please return them.

if u was small in a saw u in i kept u as a pet away from your family and your loved ones how whould you feel?

yea i thought so take them back!
Reply:learn to live with nature not destroy it. admire it then let it be.

Are baby red eared sliders illegal in the US and why?

I have one and i just read in an email that they are but i just want some back up info. i dont think they are because then buisnesses wouldn't be selling them but i dont know

Are baby red eared sliders illegal in the US and why?
All depends on the state you are in. In most states, it is illegal to sell any turtle with under a 3-4 inch carapace due mainly to health (salmonella) reasonings. In WI, it is legal to sell them when over 4 inch carapace.

Businesses do sell things illegally. A pet store here was selling a baby sturgeon (threatened ancient fish). Those grow up to 7 feet long and do not even reach adulthood until 40 yrs or so.

Local pet stores have even sold baby rattlesnakes, which is illegal in my state to sell to someone without a permit. The 16yr old that was buying one could not have legally possessed a permit.

In Wisconsin, the red eared sliders you can buy are always over a 3-4 inch carapace to follow federal laws.
Reply:i manage a petstore in NY and i know it is illegal to sell them before their shells are 3 inches long. the unfortunate part is that we buy them from florida, and they do not have any regulations on the size of them....so i think its a per state thing.
Reply:Businesses don't always do what they're supposed to if they think they can make a profit. It isn't necessarily against the law to own one (what would happen if your turtles have babies?), but it is against the law (federal law) to sell any turtle with under a 4" carapace as a pet.

Here's a link giving the actual law (bottom of the page) and an editorial giving the pros and cons of this law: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Article...
Reply:no babys aren't illegal I had one but it died so i actually think they are.
Reply:By federal law, no one can sell ANY turtle under 4" because of the Salmonella risk. Bigger turtles carry Salmonella just as easily, but it is harder for children to put them in their mouths.

Business often ignore the law since it has no enforcement written into it. They will basically only get in trouble if they are busted for something else- then that will get added on.

Some business get cute. You see, one part of the law allows small turtles to be sold for 'valid educational, scientific or display purposes' , so some places have you sign a form stating that your turtle is for a valid display purpose.

This might be OK, but here are parts of the REAL law:

.........................................

[Code of Federal Regulations]

[Title 21, Volume 8, Parts 800 to 1299]

[Revised as of April 1, 2000]

From the U.S. Government Printing Office via GPO Access

[CITE: 21CFR1240.62]

[Page 647-649]

TITLE 21—FOOD AND DRUGS

SERVICES—(Continued)

PART 1240—CONTROL OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASES—Table of Contents

Subpart D—Specific Administrative Decisions Regarding Interstate Shipments

Sec. 1240.62 Turtles intrastate and interstate requirements.

(a) Definition. As used in this section the term “turtles” includes all animals commonly known as turtles, tortoises, terrapins, and all other animals of the order Testudinata, class Reptilia, except marine species (families Dermochelyidae and Cheloniidae).

(b) Sales; general prohibition. Except as otherwise provided in this section, viable turtle eggs and live turtles with a carapace length of less than 4 inches shall not be sold, held for sale, or offered for any other type of commercial or public distribution.

[snip out some chunks, and go to section...]

(d) Exceptions. The provisions of this section are not applicable to:

(1) The sale, holding for sale, and distribution of live turtles and viable turtle eggs for bona fide scientific, educational, or exhibitional purposes, other than use as pets.

.........................................

So- if they offer you a form to sign, they are ASKING YOU TO COMMIT PERJURY! Did you notice the 'other than use as pets' bit- you CANNOT sell small turtles as pets, period.

Here is a direct link to the actual US code on the US Gov site: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/FCF1240.ht... (scroll down to part 1240.62)

Still with me?

There are many people who think this is a bad law, but one reason the law was put in place was because MILLIONS of baby Red-ears were being caught, jammed in terrible shipping containers, then being sold to people who were taught to raise them in terrible conditions- killing them within months.

If you want to keep a baby turtle and can find one for sale, AT LEAST take the time to learn how to keep the baby healthy!

http://www.redearslider.com has some great care suggestions to try.
Reply:It is illegal to sell a red eared slider with less than a 4" shell, unless they are being used for an educational purpose. This is due to the fact that they have been known to carry diseases. Please read the information in the following website about the care of your turtle. The information that you were probably given by the person you bought it from is probably incomplete.

http://www.practical-pet-care.com/turtle...
Reply:What the heck are baby red eared sliders anyway? I have never heard of such a thing.
Reply:In my state, ohio, it is illegal to own one that its shell is smaller than 3 inches in diameter unless its for reasearch reasons ect. they have ti posted in each pet shop here but, many of times a young kid and his mom will stroll right in and be able to get one. which is kinda confusing, i guess its not really enforced,
Reply:Forget everything else about 3 inches or 4 inches, or what state, etc. etc.

No, they are not "illegal" in the US. There is a federal commerce regulation ( not a law ) that states that turtles with a carapace length of less that 4 inches cannot be sold commercially or offered to sale to the public...BUT THAT ONLY APPLIES TO PEOPLE WHO ARE COMMERCIAL DEALERS AND SEELERS OF TURTLES TO THE PUBLIC ( such as Petco, etc. ). Any private person can buy or sell turtles smaller than that as long as you are not engaged in the actual business ( such as registered with a DBA ) of buying or selling turtles.

The commerce regulation is: Title 21 CFR ( Code of Federal Regulation ) Section 1240.62.

Excerpt from the FDA website: "Other exceptions to the ban are the sale of turtles and turtle eggs not in connection with a business (e.g., limited sales between turtle fanciers have been permitted)"

http://www.fda.gov/ora/compliance_ref/cp...

The reason they have been "permitted" is because they can't legally stop it ayway. A federal regulation has no force of law on private citizens. It only applies to government agencies or corporations chartered by the government to do business. If it had force of law on actually real people...then it would be a USC ( United States Code-statute law ) instead of just a CFR.

How do I know where to install the frame sliders on a 2007 ZZR 600?

This is how I did it on a F4. I put the supplied bolts in the frame holes just far enough out so they contacted the inside of the fairing, I then put some paint on the top of the heads and installed the fairings. I removed the fairings and had a paint spot on the inside. I took a tiny drill bit and drilled thru the center of the paint mark on the fairing. I installed the fairing again using the same drill bit I put it thru the whole and drilled a small mark on the bolt head of the supplied slider. Since my holes turned out to be centered I used the appropriate hole saw to make the hole the correct size. If your mark isnt centered you will want to adjust. Also put painters tape over the area you are hole sawing so paint doesnt chip.

How do I know where to install the frame sliders on a 2007 ZZR 600?

Where do hamburger sliders get there name?

Because of their small size, "bite size", it is said they are only one bite, therefore allowing them to slide down the throat.

I have 2 yellow bellied sliders, how do i go about breeding them??

Turtles mate based on size much like we become sexually mature at a certain age. Turtles are not sexually mature until they reach at least 4" in shell length. Before trying to breed I recommend you do some research on how to breed and also how to tell if you even have a male and a female, most people don't know how to tell.

I have 2 yellow bellied sliders, how do i go about breeding them??
Biiig tank. Male and female of the proper size. Nest material can be soft soil, peat mosss, moist cotton in a plastic bag. Don't keep them wet and don't touch or move them after 24 hours from laying.

One of my red eared sliders is vibrating its hand in the others face whats it doing???

Males have very long claws/toenails on the front feet and they "flirt" with females by placing their paws in front of their face and doing just exactly what you are describing. Males MAY do this as a sort of "hand jive" with other males as a stylized form of a dance in lieu of real and possibly fatal attacks.

One of my red eared sliders is vibrating its hand in the others face whats it doing???
its wanting to mate
Reply:snake_girl85 is correct again.

If one is trying to dominate the other you may have to separate them as the weaker one may be attacked or bullied to the point it will not get enough food.
Reply:Hi
Reply:It is a courtship behavior. Are you SURE they are both boys?

Between two males, it could be a territoriality display, or it could be a result of the stress of a too-small tank.

Double check your basic cares below.

Reply:it's courting, it wants a mate, are you sure you have two males?

if not, can you get a female for him?
Reply:they're trying to mate. even though one is a boy, if no females are available they get umm... less picky about who they romp with. Are you positive that they are both boys?
Reply:Males have very long claws, and it's either a mating ritual or a dominance display, depending on what the other turtle is.

EDIT: Both males means dominance display... just watch out for aggression

I see colors fading on my small red eared sliders! please help?

the colors and the designs under the shell is fading away, what does this mean? please help i need to know

I see colors fading on my small red eared sliders! please help?
Turtles loose thier color as they get old. It is just ageing. But if you give it plenty of light and be shure that it has a healthy diet it will stay bright longer.
Reply:that means yout turtle bask alot or his just old...if he is active then it dosent matter :O
Reply:They will lose their vibrant colors as they age. Thats why some of the bigger/older ones you see are more brown then green. And a lot of babies are BRIGHT green. I heard somewhere (NOT SAYING ITS TRUE) that the more greens and coloful veggies you give it the more the color stays around. Im not saying its true but it might be a good experiment. Remember that RES need varied diets with meats, pellets, and vegetable matter. Be sure to do some diet research to make sure you aren't giving him something unhealthy.

How do you play with your Red eared sliders?

you can put it on the floor, then crawl around and he might follow you, turn your head he might copy, and try different things and he might copy.

You can also make him find things like food, put little obstacles around in a small enclosed area and hide the food and see if he can find it. or make a maze out of cardboard or something.

After bringing home and placing your turtle in its already-established tank, let it get used to its new surroundings for several days. It may spend the first couple of days closed tight in its shell, or may quickly withdraw when it sees you looming overhead or approaching the enclosure.

During this time, put fresh food out every day and make sure the water stays warm and clean. After a while, the healthier turtle will begin to explore its surroundings, and may begin to watch the goings-on around it. When you pick up the turtle, support its body with both hands. Turtles feel more secure when they can feel something beneath their feet; "swimming" in air is stressful to them. Let them feel your hands or fingers beneath their feet, not just their plastron (bottom shell). A two-handed carry will also help ensure that they will not suffer a potentially crippling--or fatal--fall.

When your children's hands are big enough, teach them the proper way to hold and carry the turtle and how to properly wash their hands after handling the turtle. If they have been playing with any other animals before they go to handle the turtle, they should wash their hands before handling the turtles, as well as afterwards.

Generally speaking, turtles are not appropriate pets for young children. The higher risk of infection aside, the care and feeding is more complicated than is generally thought, and the daily maintenance of the enclosure, enclosure apparatus and feeding soon gets boring for most kids. (Some adults, too, are dismayed to find that they can't just stick the turtle in a box or tank of water or let them loose in their yard, tossing lettuce to it once in a while.) When obtained for a child, the parent must acknowledge and accept their primary responsibility for the care of the turtle and routinely check it regularly for any signs or symptoms of illness.

Scientists believe that many cold-blooded animals, especially turtles and tortoises, can live almost forever as they show no signs of aging as they get older. They die from being successfully attacked by one of their few natural predators, from the poisoning, intolerably alteration or destruction of their natural habitat, and from improper care in captivity

How do you play with your Red eared sliders?
it's simple

gently scratch on it's shell with ur fingers not nails or

put it on ur hand and let it walk on it or

show it different types of face expressions like blinking one eye

if it is comfortable with u it will do the same thing back(my turtle does it sometimes)

thats it

but don't play with it for a longer time

it becomes stressful for a turtle

hope ur turty enjoys playing with u!
Reply:you feed it and clean the turtles shell
Reply:A sink with toys....a maze...hide its food...These are the reasons that 99% of pet turtles die within the first 2 years.

Please listen to Reptile Boy and Snake Girl. Turtles especially aquatic turtles like your res (red eared sliders) don't do well on land. Yes they can walk on land. Yes they can handle it. But once use to an environment, like a tank, removing them from the environment just adds stress. Stressed turtles get sick. Although it can be tempting to take the cute little buggers out, I would only recomend doing so for cleaning, feeding (keeps the tank clean to feed outside of it), or for a highly necessary reason. Every time you handle your turtles you place them at risk for sickness.
Reply:It is not a good idea to play with turtles- it stresses them out and exposes you to Salmonella unnecessarily.

Think about it- if a giant alien creature wanted to 'play' with you, would you be happy about it?
Reply:well u culd take some cushions nd play maze wit them lik i play wit my red ears.they love it.or u culd take some food of turtles in ur finger nd watch them hop.they enjoy nd start trusting u better playin tat game.or u culd fill ur sink wit water nd put some toys in there.they love playin in sinks wit toys.hope this was helpful.
Reply:In all honesty, you really don't... Most reptiles don't like to be "played with," though some tolerate it fairly well. Water turtles tend to stress easily, and REALLY don't care for much human interaction. Some may grow to tolerate handling for short periods, but it's generally better for the animal if you just leave it be.
Reply:You really can play with a turtle.
Reply:Well when i had mine(i released it) i used to take it out side to a log or a sandbox and let it crawl around. They also like to sunbathe. It will just lay in the sun for hours.

Red Eared Sliders ate 7 of 8 goldfish, but last goldfish has been living with turtles for months?

Very weird. I was asked to turtle sit 4 turtles. So obviously the first thing I did was go buy goldfish! The turtles immediately ate 7 of the 8 goldfish. The one remaining fish has been living happily with the 4 turtles for months. Why didn't the turtles eat the last goldfish? Do they sense that it is maybe sick or something? Did they become attached somehow?

Red Eared Sliders ate 7 of 8 goldfish, but last goldfish has been living with turtles for months?
Its the process of prey selection. Animals go after specific targets, and the remaining fish is no longer a target.

With turtles, size is a primary indicator, but other things like color, 'scent', etc. are also a part of it. A turtle will only seek prey big enough to bother with and small enough to reasonably catch.

If you dump a big bunch of assorted size fish in a tank with several turtles (or other predators), you'd be able to watch as slowly, all but the biggest and smallest are eaten. Of course, as the fish got bigger, they'd become prey again!
Reply:We had the same sort of incident. About 18 years ago we had a Reeves Turtle (and he is still around, just a few feet from me) who - theoretically - is a meat eater.

Tossed in a couple of goldfish. There were a couple of attempts at a bite, then nothing.

All I can figure is the little guy figured it was a lot easier to eat ReptoMin than chase fish. So, that was the last time fish shared his tank.
Reply:sometimes bonds are made betwee different types of animals that would normally be dinner or lunch. they might have grown use to the fish and do not see a reason to eat him.
Reply:I have experienced the same thing. There is nothing to worry about if the turtles are eating. Mybee he is a quick little smart goldfish and has escaped being dinner.

What do black spots on a red eared sliders shell mean?

ive had my red eared slider 4 bout a year and have no idea how old it is cause it was a gift but yea i kno that once they get to age there shell goes black but idk if this is what it is help please!!!

What do black spots on a red eared sliders shell mean?
One of two things:

Spots that are the same texture and 'level' as the shell are sheer age.

Spots that feel softer, fuzzier, lowered or raised, etc., and especially if they are at ALL 'squishy', it could be a sign of shell rot or fungus.

Try the medical section of http://www.austinsturtlepage.com for ideas to treat rot.

Red Ear Sliders laid eggs in my garden, what do I do.?

2 of my pet red ear sliders laied eggs in my garden today. I do not know what to do about it. Do I buy an incibuator, or can I leave the eggs in the garden where they laid them? I have no idea what to do and would like to get the eggs out of the nest before sundown if it is a bad idea to leave them in the nest.

I live on Long Island in NY, so you have an idea of what the weather is like.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Red Ear Sliders laid eggs in my garden, what do I do.?
Leave the eggs right where they are. Moving reptile eggs of any kind is extremely risky, changing the orientation of the eggs slightly can kill the embryo. The weather should not be a problem as ling as your soil has good drainage. Look for the eggs to hatch in the early fall!!!
Reply:call petsmart, petco or your vet
Reply:buy a 10 gal. tank at walmart $10and some clean peat moss and cover it with press and seal and keep a hole for airiation and make sure you have a lamp for turtles
Reply:Leave them where they are if they are furtilized they will hatch in about 45 to 60 days, alot of aquatic turtles lay their eggs around this time of year May/ June.

How long do red eared sliders sleep and...?

i got a red slider about 2 days ago and i want to know how long do red sliders sleep and why doesn't mines eat the pellets like i want it to? and why hasn't it gone number 2 yet?

How long do red eared sliders sleep and...?
I have had 2 for 36 yrs...

The minimum enclosure size for hatchling re-eared slider should be a 20-gallon aquarium (30" x 12" wide x 12" high). As a general rule, the water depth should be at least 1.5-2 times the turtle's carapace length, with several extra inches of air space between the surface of the water to the top edge of the tank to prevent escapes. For 4 to 5 inch long sliders, the recommended minimum enclosure surface area is 2.5 square feet with an extra square foot for each additional turtle.

plus...In the wild, re-eared sliders are omnivorous, eating both animal and plant sources of food. However, juveniles are mainly carnivorous and become more herbivorous as they mature.

In captivity, the diet for juveniles should consist primarily of a commercial aquatic turtle pellet. Hatchlings and juveniles should be fed on a daily basis; however, they should be offered no more than they will consume during a single session to minimize water contamination. The diet can be supplemented with occasional live fish of an appropriate size (guppies, goldfish), tubifex worms and earthworms. Plant matter, in the form of chapped leafy greens or finely chapped mixed vegetables, can be offered once weekly but may not be readily accepted until they grow older.

For adults, 50% of the diet may consist of commercial turtle pellets and animal base protein as per the juvenile diet. The remaining 50% should consist of chopped plant matter, such as kale, romaine, red leaf lettuce, mustard greens, dandelion, watercress, parsley. Swiss chard, shredded carrots, shredded squash, thawed frozen mixed vegetables and miscellaneous fruits. Adults can be fed every two to three days.

anddddd......Water quality and Filtration

Sliders are voracious feeders and tend to foul the water quickly with their messy eating habits and frequent defecation. Therefore, a system needs to be in place for management of water quality. Partial to full water changes can be performed. Many different filtration systems are available

plusss...Most common Disorders of Red-eared Sliders

Swollen eyes due to hypovitaminosis A

Soft shell, poor growth, or shell doming due to metabolic bone disease

Ear abscesses

Gasping for air, neck stretching or abnormal buoyancy due to respiratory infections

Shell "fuzz" due to poor water quality

Shell infections

Red flush to plastron due to septicemia

Prolapsed phallus

Trauma: shell fractures, wounds from fighting or abrasions on rocks or other objects.

Red Ear Sliders what are they doing?

Okay i have three red ear sliders all in the same tank together, they are a little over a year old, today i was sitting down watching them when i noticed them doing something i hadnt seen before, two of them were face to face with there hands/claws (whatever u call them) at the side of there faces kinda shaking and just staring at eachother when the third one would try to join the ingnored or swam away, does anyone know what they are doing, if not please dont bother answering

Red Ear Sliders what are they doing?
they are playing "house" although they need to be 5 inches in length before they can mate. The courtship and mating activities usually occur between March and July, and take place underwater. The male swims toward the female and begins to flutter or vibrate his long claws on and around her face and head. The female will continue to swim toward the male and if she is receptive she will sink to the bottom for mating. If the female is not receptive, she might start a fight with the male. The courtship can take up to 45 minute, but the mating itself usually takes 15 minutes.

Sometimes a male will appear to be courting another male. This is actually a sign of dominance and the males may begin to fight. Juveniles may display the courtship dance, but until the turtles are five years of age (around 6 cm) they are not mature and unable to mate.

After mating, the female will spend extra time basking in order to keep her eggs warm. She may also have a change of diet, eating only certain foods or not eating as much as she normally would. This is normal and the female should be offered food throughout pregnancy. The average gestation period is two months, but if the female cannot find a suitable place for laying her eggs it may last longer. A female might lay anywhere from two to twenty eggs. One female can lay multiple clutches of eggs during one mating season. Depending on several factors, the clutches will be spaced two to four weeks apart.

The eggs will hatch 80-85 days after they have been laid. The hatchling will cut open the egg with an "egg tooth" which falls out an hour after hatching and never grows back. If the turtle don't feel secure, they will remain inside their shell after hatching for another day or two. If they are removed from the shell before they are ready, they will return to the shell if possible. When they decide to leave their shells, they will have a small sac hanging from their bellies. This is the remains of the yolk sac and should not be removed. Removing it could be fatal to the hatchling. The sac will fall off by itself, at which point you may notice a split in the turtle's plastron. This will heal on its own as well and does not need to be treated.

i just let my two red eared sliders go-we rehab them as my husband picks them out of swimming pools that have gone green.
Reply:it depends on the sex of the turtles... if they are female and male than it has to do with mating...if you have all males, it's a sign of aggression. RES turtles are very territorial.
