Who are the Knotts Scary Farm Sliders, is it some kind of Clown act of some sort?
Reply:Yeah i'm a slider over here on the East Coast at one of Cedar Fair's new parks. I've been doing this for a while now and people ask this question alot.





On our feet we wear steel toed boots. After a while the leather will wear away from the contact with the pavement so that the steel is exposed, and eventually this will cause our toes to emit yellow sparks.





On our knees we have thick construction kneepads equipped with a heavy vel-cro. On the vel-cro we attach what is called a "puck". This is a carbon-plastic, extremely dense, piece of composite material which enables the majority of the slide.





On our hands we have black baseball-esque gloves and wrist guards that let us slide on all fours.





Aside from all of that we have our respective costumes, which I'm sure you've experienced, and all or most of the gear mentioned is sealed over with black tape or gaff to keep the pavement from ripping it off mid-slide. Different sliders add different flairs, or will have extra gadgets to enhance the effect of the slide.





Anyways, all of this is how we roll on the East Coast. If any Knotts sliders catch this, definitely hit me up, cause ive never had the chance to see you guys over there. If you all have special brands or tricks, then holler. Plus I'd love to exchange stories.

Just found out my red eared sliders like turkey ham... keep giving them turkey ham? bad or good?

i ran out of floating sticks. so i gave them some reall real thin sliced turkey ham and they ate it in less then a minute. should i keep giving them turkey? or im harming them?

v.bad its high in protein stop feeding them this, oh and I find they like anything you put in there tank

Reply:its too much for a turtles. do you have any vegetables [romaine lettuce, carrots] and fruits around the house? if you do, feed your turtles them and when you get the chance go to the store and buy some more floating sticks. good luck!
Reply:It may be OK as a treat but not as a primary food. Try to balance the diet with leafy, dark green vegetables, whole animals (other than goldfish), and occasional bits of liver.
Reply:It's the meat they like, and fowl is not bad, but I'd switch to fish meat if I were you. It's closer to their natural food. Whole feeder gold fish are even better, because then they'll get the nutrition from the bones, guts, etc.

I got 2 baby red eared sliders, and their shells are kind of soft, should i be worried?

i just got them, and i don't know if they're suppose to have soft shells. i noticed when i accidentally held one of them by one side of their shell, and i felt that i was able to squish its body by pressing on its shell. and also, they're not eating. should i be worried?

i think that babies have soft shells that harden when they grow older, but im not sure.


if they arent eating, what are you feeding them? try giving them some fruits and veggies
Reply:i used to have two baby red eared sliders and their shells wern't soft. i don't think it is normal but you could check on some turtle websites and if they say its not normal of course you should go to the doctor. ~good luck~
Reply:All baby turtles have soft-shells and are very sensitive, so be careful not to drop them or hurt them because the shells are soft.

No, it's best to have the sliders alone in their own tank. They will get big rapidly and eat guppies....





Ohhh you don't care about the guppies....well that's a tasty treat for the sliders. No guppies won't hurt your sliders.
Reply:You can try. There is no guarantee they will survive. Anything in the tank has the potential to become food. You can try to put in ones that are bigger than the turtles head, but I've seen babies play tug-o-war, just so they could share a yummy snack! It won't harm the turtles just the fish! Guppies, Rosie Reds, Ghost Shrimp and aquatic snails are some safe fish to feed. Watch out for goldfish they are too fatty and offer no nutritional value.





EDIT for your additional info: NO the turtles will be fine. Guppies are great feeder fish and on the safe feeding list.

Reply:yes they can without any problems on the turtles side but the guppies have a problem with getting eaten.lol





Really the guppies are cheap enough and provide good nutrition for the turtle. and they are fun to watch will they last.

Reply:The turtles may eat the guppies, but it isn't a sure thing. I fed my red-eared slider goldfish when I wanted some entertainment, but there was one in the cage he seemed to be friends with, so he didn't eat that one and they lived in harmony for months, while I continued to put other goldfish in his tank and he quickly devoured them. I know, this sounds crazy to anyone knowing that turtles don't have the mental capacity to do such a thing, but it's true. If you really care about the fish though, you might want to buy a 12 cent goldfish and test it out in the turtle cage to see what would happen, before you kill your fish testing it.

You can search the net for a turtle or reptile rescue in your area to find a lil guy that needs a good home

Reply:I have seen them at Petco, however I believe Petco gets them from local rescues (at least here in NY), and then sells them for a huge mark up...so go online and find a rescue. They sell them as tiny babies in chinatown in most big cities, and tell people they don't grow, even though females eventually reach the size of shoe boxes. Accordingly, a lot of people give them up, and they are easy to find cheaper (or free) than at petco.





Look for one with clear eyes, a clear vent, a hard shell, and no bubbles coming out the nose/wheezing.
Reply:At Pet-co I've only seen them at. I was going to get one but pets-mart didn't have them. Petco is the most likely of a choice to get a red-eared- slider. THEY ARE SO COOL
