How Many Sqare Feet Do Red Ear Slider Turtles Need? Is it OK if I have a box turtle in the same exibit?

My plans for a turtle home includes a rectange or square area with a small pond (only 3-4 feet deep) with a large grass area. I have a red ear slider and am planning to get a box turtle. I dont know if I should have them share land + food, but I have seen it done at my local nature center. Please have an answer with atleast 2 sentances because I am desparate!

Thx

I dont see why the two turtles could not cohabitate. If they have plenty of room and food it will be fine. If they have to fight for space, youll have a problem. Just make sure that with the large area there is an appropriate heat source so they can bask and enough out of water room for both of them....box turtles are largely out of water and RES's are in water mostly.

If you have the room and means to do it go for it.

Where can you buy baby red eared sliders? and tanks and other related items? thanks?

The pet stores aren't carrying the turtles; but tanks, food and whatever else you can imagine can be bought at Petsmart or Petco.

The turtles have been showing up at flea markets for some odd reason. I've seen 20 or 30 dealers this summer selling baby turtles and a plastic bowl with a plastic palm tree for about $5.

Where can you buy baby red eared sliders? and tanks and other related items? thanks?
A 20 gallon tank is the absolutely minimum for a Red Eared Slider. You can by tanks anywhere...at pet stores, WalMart, PetSmart, PetCo, and the list goes on. Also, though, you can go to www.lllreptile.com or www.glasscages.com or a variety of other reptile supply sites online to order a tank and any accessory you need for him.
Reply:last i heard, they have been outlawed. that might just be in Texas though, i'm not sure.
Reply:in many places, like petco or pet-smart. But the big tanks are somewhat expensive so i suggest getting only one and buying a medium tank at Wal*Mart or something.
Reply:you cant really get a baby red ear slider...they have to be 4" or bigger...anywhere around the place where you live you can get all the nesscay supplies
Reply:As a public health code law the stores can not sell a red ear slider baby turtle under 4 inches cause they carry salmonella.

That is why you see people selling them at flea markets or on the street, they are under 4 inches. The turtle can grow up to 14 inches and live to 40 years, the store should have the tank where you get the turtle, please get at least a 25 gallon tank cause they need 1/4 of land and 3/4 of water fill the tank about 8 inches high with water and try to buy or make a plastic divider for the tank so you can keep the dirt seperate from going into the water, get a filter too to keep the water clean cause the turtle going to the bathroom in the water causes salmonella if it is not cleaned

Good luck!.
Reply:Try craigslist.com for a Red-eared slider. There are so many poeple re-homing theirs!! You may even be able to buy their tank and accessories...
Reply:Try reptile auction as they have both reptiles and supplies.
Reply:Rather then buy one you should consider adopting. If you go on petfinder.com and look up turtles there are hundreds in need of good homes. Red eared sliders are very popular pets and people get them when they're little but when they get big no one wants them anymore. Please consider adoption first.
Reply:some pet stores it depends were u live were i live they only sell them to to techers cuz they carry a desise
Reply:were do you live
Reply:at petsmarts or petco

What sickness does my Yellow bellied slider turtle have?

I bought two turtles less then a month ago, and now one seems to have become ill. He doesn't eat,he harldy moves from one spot, he sleeps 24/7, never really opening his eyes. When I picked him up and looked at him. I noticed he opens his mouth alot for no apparent reason. But not all the way open. Only slightly.

Is my turtle dieing?

Is there something I can do?

What sickness does my Yellow bellied slider turtle have?
i dont know call your vet or go to the vet
Reply:the reason why he might be weak and not eat is because he may be too cold, do you have a water heater to keep the water at least 78F? turtles only eat in water that is not too hot or too cold, and 78-82 degrees is perfect. Also you absolutely need a filter. he WILL get sick if the water isnt being kept clean enough. Also how big is your tank? 10 gallons is incredibally small even for a baby slider, so hopefully you have at least a 50 gallon tank.the tank should be 4/5 filled up with clean water with a warm basking light under a basking dock and a uvb light and a filter and a heater. What are you feeding him?turtles eat crickets, reptomin pellets, shrimp, krill, bloodworms, mealworms. theyalso eat vegetables, such as, kale, mustard greens, collard greens and aquatic plants such as anachris. Also it is important that they have calcium AND vitamin supplements, such as powder to sprinkle onto the food, so they have a healthy shell. Good luck, with your turtle;)
Reply:Your pet might not be reacting to your environment very well. It might be its age. You should find out what its age is and take it to the vet. It is not dieing. It might though if this happens more often. I suggest to feed it more and give him love until he's better.

How long can my red eared slider live in my setup?

I just ordered a complete setup for my baby RES and heres what hes in for probably another week to week and 1/2. Less then 1 gallon tank with some gravel so he can partially get out of water. He eats on rare occasions and has only eaten 1/2 of a reptomin baby stick and some brine shrimp and krill. I will continue to try and feed him his reptomin baby every day until my setup comes. What can i do.

How long can my red eared slider live in my setup?
My turtle, who is now 2 years old, wouldn't eat when it was a baby too. It might be because he isnt getting any UVA lighting.

Try different kinds of foods, the first thing I saw my turtle eat was a little piece of shrimp.
Reply:Get rid of the gravel, they eat it and die quite often and it dirtys up the tank faster. Your turtle won't live for long in that since the water can get cold easily and they could get RI (respiratory infection) easily.

A complete setup is ten gallons per inch of shell, a water heater, filter 3x larger than the tank, a dock, two light fixtures, a 5.0 uvb bulb, and a heat bulb. Don't use gravel..I cannot stress that enough. This link will help http://www.redearslider.com/startup.html

This is a decent setup http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewto...

Feed once per day. The number of pellets that would fit in their head of it was hollow every other day with romaine lettuce, basil, radish leaves, and carrots every day in between. Aquatic plants like anacharis are also good. If you keep feeding shrimp your turtle will develop pyramidding which is a serious shell disorder.

You might wanna check out http://www.redearslider.com for some more help.

Good luck.

What have you found to be the best way to protect a slider phone?

I used to have a samsung sgh-d807 and I loved it, but I broke the lcd. After that I went to a razr, didn't like it too much but it was okay, I found that I often broke the external lcd cover, but that was easily replaceable and the actual lcd never broke. When that razr came time to be replaced, I was looking at newer razrs with better cameras and music players, but I came up on a samsung sgh-d900 for an outrageously small amount of money, so I had to buy it. I have to say, the phone is amazing, but I'm worried about breaking the lcd. Those clear snap on cases for slider phones put resistance on the slide and that wouldn't do for every day use, and i havent seen a different case design that protects the lcd of a slider well. Anyone have a case for a slider phone that they think adequately protects the lcd? And also, I've seen those sticky clear lcd protectors that are custom fit to the screen and I get how they would help it be scratch resistant, but do help it not break too?

What have you found to be the best way to protect a slider phone?
I have a D900 too, and I found a Samsung hard pouch that I find works really well. It has a belt clip on it but I end up just leaving it in my pocket.

How do i cure a respetory infection in a baby red-eared slider without turing up the heat in my room?

I have a baby red-eared slider in my room and it has developed a respetory infection. I cant highten the tempeture in my room because my brother complains and my parents always side with him. The turtle has a gaping mouth and bask's all day unless i come near the tank. (It always runs away with a human presence to the tank, Its only about 5 mouths old after all) Also my parents refuse to take him to a vet because its expencive and im only 13 years old and I dont have the money for a vet bill....Please help?

How do i cure a respetory infection in a baby red-eared slider without turing up the heat in my room?
Are you sure it is a respiratory infection? Here is some info make sure that is what it is.

http://redearslider.com/respiratory_beha...

You need to have a submersible under water calibrated heater if you don't already have one. And a heat lamp for when he basks. There isn't much you can do except take him to the vet. Im so sorry about this and I hope he is ok and doesn't really have a resp. infection.
Reply:Well, this website will help you with the problem!
Reply:try a heating pad under the tank. not to hot..
Reply:His basking temps need to be correct. He must have UVB all day. His water needs to be heated to the correct temperatue, and he needs a well balanced and supplemented diet. Water needs to be absolutely clean! A large filter is often needed. They need about 10 gallons for every inch of shell to start with. See www.austinsturtlepage.com for great info.

How do I clean the "slider tracks" on sliding glass windows and doors?

The tracks are very dirty with ash and grime from the wild fires here in San Diego. What is the best product and techinque to clean them? Windex/409 is not doing the job....

How do I clean the "slider tracks" on sliding glass windows and doors?
Brush the tracks out good with a soft brush. The spray WD-40 on the tracks, and gently wipe with a cloth.
Reply:I use plain dishwashing soap and water..use an old tooth brush for any stubborn stains.and if the dirt is real hard to get off I even use a dot or two of soft scrub with water then use papertowels to dry the tracks.... There ya go..8-)

God Bless to all of you in San Diego and other fire areas....I have a brother and his family who were evacuated there in San Diego horses and kitty and all..They were one of the blessed ones and their home was spared.....
Reply:Keep your wet vac handy, Get a bucket with a good cleaner and a scrub brush that is sized appropriate for the tracks. Remove the windows and doors and scrub the tracks until clean... vac them dry and retreat if necessary. Don't be afraid to slop them up heavy and bear down on the brush.
Reply:Try Magic erasers. They are good for everything from scuffs marks to permanent markers. Then use your windex for a good shine. Just be sure to keep the things away from kids because the cleaning chemicals can cause serious burns if a kid tries to erase something off themselves. Mr. Clean, ?Clorox? and generic brands make these. They are found in the mop, broom, etc. aisles of your local walmart.. and are very reasonably priced.

and you can use them on anything from tubs, to stoves, to glass to wood., just remember that they will take the finish of the woods..
Reply:srewdriver, flat tip and a wet dry vacume
