How to determine the gender of a yellow bellied slider turtle?

My yellow bellied slider turtle is about 5-7 years old and the person I bought it from did not tell me the gender of it. Can someone please tell me how to determine the gender of a yellow bellied slider turtle? Thank you.

The males of all turtles will have a longer, thicker tail, with the cloaca located closer to the tip of the tail, whereas females with have a smaller, thinner tail with the vent closer to the main part of the body. In some of the more commonly kept turtles (Sliders, some Maps, Painteds, Cooters), males will also have exceptionally long foreclaws; the females having smaller ones. Males in some species will also display a concave or dented-in plastron.
Reply:I believe that all slider males have long front toenails. Girls have short ones.
Reply:The male will grow up and change a lot more, longer body, longer tail and longer front toe nails, the female will keep it's shape it could only get a bit bigger then the Male as they grow up.
Reply:I don't live in the US but all of the tortoises in South Africa are quite easy to sex. The male has a concave plastron while the female is either flat or slightly convex.
Reply:There are two easy ways to tell if it's a male or a female: The front claws and the tail.

Males will have long front claws. They use these in their "mating dance" by rubbing the female's face with them. Female ones are shorter and more proportional.

Males also have longer, thicker tails. The bump in the tail is located lower and is much more prominent. Once again, females tails will appear more proportional (I think) to the rest of the turtle.

Also, females tend to be larger, so if you can compare to another RES, that will help as well!
Reply:Not only can you tell the gender by looking at the claws

(Long=Male...... Short=Female)

On the bottom of the male's shell should be a sight indent for the turtle to be able to sit on top of the female

and generally speaking. females are usually bigger.
