My baby red eared sliders don't bask themselves, why?

they might not be basking because the water is hot for them so lower the heater. and then the next day you will see your turtle going on the dock for more heat and then he will go in the water to cool down.

KimbeeJ is right, you need to make sure that they are able to climb onto it themselves and that the heat temperature is just right. Just give them about a week to see if they will after you make sure that everything is okay. If you recently set up the basking spot then it may take them a couple days to feel comfortable and safe enough to climb onto it.
Reply:Make sure the basking platforms you have are easy for them to climb onto. If there is no ramp, they physically may not be able to pull themselves out of the water. Also, if the temperature of the basking spot (and always measure with a digital probe thermometer for accuracy) is not correct, they won't bask. It needs to be about 95-100F. Too hot or too cool and they won't bask.

they will soon have the urge to bask themselves...

are you sure you have the area all set up? with a lamp and rock/basking area big enough for them?

but don't worry, they're still babies and they are probably not extremely familiar with the place/world

you're gonna have so much fun with them! just be patient
