Windows-sliders or cranks?

We live in Manitoba can anyone professional tell me which is best and cost efficient and where to buy.

Windows-sliders or cranks?
Couldn't tell you cost efficiency or where to buy, but I'll tell you my experience with crank windows.

The house I grew up in had crank windows. We were on the plains of iowa, where the winds can get up to 50-60 mph. Mom could never open the windows on windy days because once right after the house was built, a gust took the window, broke the hinge and smashed it against the side of the house and broke the window. $500 later (in the 80's), she had to replace the window. :( Three years ago she was able to remodel the house and installed all slide windows that can open from either the top or bottom. I prefer them (and so does she) when it's really hot in the house, open the top window and it allows the heat out (heat rises). Also, they are great while it's raining because the eve of the house prevents the rain from coming in the top of the window.
