Is it better to put fake (plastic) or real plants in a Red Eared Slider's aquarium?

Is there are any particular species of plants which Red Eared Sliders will eat? Also, if I put a real plant in the aquarium will my turtle eat it?

Red eared slider turtles enjoy the plant Anacharis and will keep eating at it until all gone. The plant has other advantages as well as an oxygenator and a nitrite remover. This plant is a floater and the turtle will sit on it too if it is a small one.
Reply:i have a red ear slider you are better of with a fake plant just make sure it wont damage its shell because some get cut then get infected with worm disease
Reply:if u want some decoration fake ones would do best. Turtles obviously enjoy and eat real vegetation so the plant "elodea" is the idea plant to put inside a turtle tank. It's inexpensive and i found that it thrives better in cold water with moderate to strong sunlight.
Reply:it is safe with real ones but fake(plastic) one could kill them. they could either try to eat them and choke on them. or they could get tangled in them and drown.
Reply:Don't put the plastic in...they can choke on it easily.

real plants are great, as they will snack on them them. but they are gone very soon, i have to replace them very often.
Reply:Young sliders rarely eat plants, but may uproot them in their activities. Older turtles DO eat plants- especially things like anacharis, duckweed, and water lettuce. They might also uproot the plants in daily activities.

Overall, live plants are a good thing in a turtle tank. They offer food, help condition the water, add appeal, and just make a more 'liveable' habitat. Just make sure to anchor them well.
Reply:It is better to do real plants in your turtles tank. Yes, the turtle will eat them therefore you need to research plants and see what will not harm your turtle.I definitley would not do plastic. If you turtle swallows it, it could kill him.Just reserach!!!
Reply:It is important when buying plants for your aquarium to make sure the source is reputable. Just because it is the correct species doesn't always mean it is safe.

Plants can become contaminated easily based on how they were handled and raised. Often, fake plants are safest.
Reply:doesnt matter, i didnt put plants in mine red ear slider tank at all.
