Ok, one of my Red Eared Sliders might have some eggs.?

I think its doubtful, but one of them keeps diggin at the bottom of the tank in the same spot every night. When I picked them up to compare them, one of them had 2 large lumps next to their tail. The one with the lumps is the sameone that is digging and has the lumps and is trying to bite me.... why is it doing this? Whats happening??

Your turtle needs to have a sandy spot that is only moist for it to lay eggs. They may be infertile if your turtles haven't had sex but they also may be fertile on the other hand. This is actually really cool.
Reply:2 years old is no where near old enough to be laying eggs- its got a couple more to go, and even then will probably lay infertile eggs for a couple years.





Digging is a sign it wants out- it can see out the glass and is trying to figure out how to get 'there'.





You can try putting a visual block on the tank wall, or try a bigger tank and see if that helps.

Reply:IT DOES SOUND LIKE SHE MAY BE WANTING TO LAY EGGS...SO IT WOULD BE BEST TO LEAVE HER ALONE AND LET HER LAY THEM, MEANWHILE IF YOUR SLIDER TANK IS NOT KEPT AT THE APPROPRIATE TEMPERATURE TO INCUBATE THOSE EGGS, I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU GET SOMETHING READY FOR THAT JOB. sorry for the caps, i just looked up and saw them.....


anyway, i have incubated turtle eggs by using earth that has mulch in it (dead leaves and such) the earth must be kept just moist but not wet. and when you tranplant your turtle eggs from the turtle tank to the incubator...DO NOT LET THE EGGS ROLL OR MOVE FROM THE POSITION IN WHICH THEY WERE PLACED IN THE NEST...you will kill the developing embryo if this happens.


you will get mostly females if the temp is kept around 84 degrees, and mostly males at lower temps. it should take about 3 months for them to hatch.
