My Red Ear Sliders dance but are they gonna mate? That could be problem since they live in total water. If they do could my RES lay her eggs in the water?

Red Ear Sliders Dancing?
The waving on the front legs does not necessarily mean they are ready to mate. Both males and females will do this when they are young and sometimes it is done to show dominance.

RES males need to be at least 4-5" and females 6-7" before they are ready to mate fertile eggs. Female RES may lay invertile eggs, even without the presence of a male RES. Yes, females can lay in water, and sometimes they will crawl out on a basking area to lay.

Often if a female is ready to lay, you can tell she feeds less, digs around in the water and acts differently. At this point, you can put her in a moist soil in a rubbermaid and give her a chance to lay. Keep her there for an hour a day until she lays.

One more thing, these's no need to incubate RES eggs b/c they are produced commercially by the tens of millions each year. They are not endangered, rather a nuisance b/c of poor keepers and releasing them in their non-native habitats.
