Do Red-eared sliders prefer to be on land or in water? I let mine sleep outside water.?

sometimes i go check on mine and they are sleeping underwater, sometimes they are sleeping on the basking dock, i guess it's just how they feel that day.

But they should have both land and water available to them so that they can make a choice of where they want to sleep.

u should give them an area where they can choose for themselves. on a cool night he may want land while on a warm night he may want water
Reply:They should be allowed to sleep where they want, but most will choose to sleep in water or on a basking site surrounded by water.

Their main habitat is water- they hunt, eat, court, mate, and brumate (hibernate) in the water and go on land mostly just to bask, warm up, find new habitats, and lay eggs.

Reply:its good to have mostly water and then a basking area out of the water for the turtle:D i have a long rock bridge that sticks to the slide of the glass for mine
Reply:Umm well it depends on how the red ear slider likes......for me i allow mine to be on land and water :)
Reply:I think its better for RES to sleep in water, that way they won't dry out while they are sleeping, but wherever its comfortable is best. I have plants in my tank so my turtles lie on them so they are resting and at the same time they are in the water.
