Do shells on turtle sliders grow back? i have one thats shell softened and another slider started tearing it?

At this stage of soft shell, your turtle will die. This could have easily been prevented or stopped at an early stage. Not to be rude to you, but your set up for your turtles is incorrect. Soft shell is caused by a lack in calcium, vitmain d3, UVB lighting, and lack of basknig. Just adding a calcium block will do nothing for your trutle. Just adding calcium and D3 is pointless as they have no way to metabolize it. They metabolize it through UVB lighting but you have to have both calcium and a UVB light for either to work. UVB produces vitamin D3 so you automatically take care of that. The temerpatures in the tank are probably either too low to too high. The water needs to be 75 degrees F and the basking area needs to be 90 degrees F. If you don't have a basking spot, there's your problem. If the water is too warm, they see no point in basking as they do this to warm up. You need to separate your turtles as not only is this painful, it's even more unhealthy for them.

it might grow back (im not 100% sure) but it probably wont be good looking. when the shell softened i would have seperated the turtles. put calcium block thingy's in the water like someone else said.
Reply:If it's that soft, the turtle is most likely doomed.

This could have been prevented, had you made some effort to learn about the turtles needs before you got them.
Reply:They do grow back some although they may look deformed or something but there is a calcium block you can put in the turtle water and it keeps the shell hard. I get mine at Wal-mart.
