My Red Ear Sliders are doing something weird?

I think that they might be fighting? ok, they've been doing this weird thing for about 15 minutes now. they're facing each other and touching each other's faces with their front flippers like they're hitting one another. Are they fighting or are they trying to mate?!!!!! They've never done this before and I don't know if they are male or female?
