Red ear sliders are avid baskers. If they are not basking, that's a sign something is wrong. What are your temps on your basking area? Is the water too warm? They may be basking when you are not around. Mine jump off when I pass them. If your temps are proper and you know for a fact he's not basking at all he may be sick and needs to be checked by a qualified vet. See here to find one http://www.anapsid.org/vets/

Reply:...The only ones to do more are baskin' robins
Reply:red-eared slider turtles loves to bask. if you can see them in the wild, they can stay in the sun for long periods of times. and the it is good for them.

do you have both a uvb light and heat up in the basking area. considering to have these will make your turtle feel comfortable and will bask more. and provide a lot of basking room. they tend to move around.

its okay, don't worry.. my turtles were the same. you should keep you light on during the day or in a 12 hour period. your turtle will eventually go up and bask. and try not to watch him. they will feel more comfortable is no one is around watching over them.. my turtles were like that..

...have fun!
