Now, listen to the system for a while. Does there seem to be something missing in any part of the audible spectrum? For example, is the midrange too present? Do the low frequencies tend to drop off at some point? Are the high frequencies loud enough?





Now, play with the controls. Just nudge them about a half a tick and then listen again to how the sound is now. And, make sure to go back to the same place you listened to the sound originally (the same chair or whatever). Where you are in the room can change the accoustics because of sound reflections and absorptions by furniture or whatever.





Keep doing this until you think you have the perfect equalization for your room. Note where the controls are (what pattern the sliders form), so you can replicate that if you or someone else changes them later. When I used a graphic equalizer back in the day, I found that I always used the same general pattern: The lowest frequencies kind of tailed up on the end, then the pattern kind of flattened out in the middle, the second or third sliders from the right came up, and the highest frequency control was back down a bit.





It takes a while to finally get the equalization you like best. One day you'll like it and the next you'll be changing it again. But, keep playing with it. You'll find the optimum settings eventually.
