What other turtles can live with red eared sliders?
There are other varieties of turtles that can coexist with RES provided there is a large enough habitat. The same potential problems exist with these turtles as well. You must be willing to accept the additional expense and care. The types most often mentioned in the compatible group are cooters, map turtles and painted turtles. Some painted turtles will be slightly smaller than RES, and some cooters can grow larger than RES. If different species are kept together, they must be of similar size and require a similar environment.
Reply:I wouldn't get another turtle. The fact alone that you have your RES in a 10 gallon tells me that you have no idea yet how much you are going to have to spend on your pet. When it is full grown, you are going to need a HUGE tank, high-powered filter, special basking and UVB bulbs, heaters, basking docks, and more. It will cost you ALOT of money, and getting another turtle will almost double that cost. Please think twice about getting another one. If you do have the money to spend, then I suggest you get another RES that is similar in size and monitor the two together for some time to make sure they are compatible. Good luck.
Reply:There's more than one kind of slider and I see no reason why they couldn't live together. Also, I would suggest a plastic kiddy pool, I kept my turtle in it for a year before I released it. Hope I helped.
Reply:It's never a good idea to mix two different types of turtles together. Maps and yellow bellied sliders will do ok but it's never a good idea. You need to have at least a 75 gallon tank. Turtles need to have 10 gallons of water per square inch of shell per turtle. If you have two 1 inch turtles you'll need to have a 20 gallon tank. These turtle's get huge. Female RES get to be 12 inches in diameter so they need at least 120 gallons of water. For two babies, a 75 should be sufficient. Remember that turtles are terrirtorial and can be agressive so if they don't have enough room, they will fight.
Reply:There are plently of other turtles that can live with a RES...

For one there are a few different types of sliders, like the yellow eared slider...then there's cooters, map turtles and painted turtles...

You can also mix RES with sideneck turtles...for a different look all together...

As long as it's not a much bigger turtle, they should get along for the most part...

As for tank size...the bigger the better...

If you can get a 55 or 75 it would be GREAT!!! and make one half water and the other half into a basking area with rocks and pebbles...

Turltes in general get dirty...the more space you can give them the better...you can also add some aquatic plants to the tank to help with the water quality...bamboo is pretty good, along with moneywart....just know that your turtles are going to nip at them...they do the least damage to bamboo...

Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!!!
