They need enough comfortably swim around. Be sure to include an area for them to bask and a UV light source.
Reply:That is fine. I have my tank water almost full. As long as you have a basking area they will be fine. Turtles are strong swimmers. Just make sure that they cannot get out from the basking area and fall to the floor.
Reply:Personally, I would say that's too much water, while they are water turtles, they spend a lot of their time basking on land. I would think with that much water you would have no room to set up a surface breaking rock or other such "land" area. I set mine up in aquaria with about 4" of water, gravel bottom, then a rock ledge they can bask on.
Reply:i have a 20 gal long tank no gravel or nothin.gravel only dirty's the tank to fast.. the best amount of water to put in ur tank is to make sure that when u fill the tank up that the turtles are at least 2 1/2 or 3inches away from the basking bulb.thats how i have mine set up and my turtles love it they have enough room to play and enough room to bask..
