How long do red-eared sliders live?

Mine is at 37 years and still going strong but i will admit he has not had a typical life but then again he doesn't know any better and it seems to be working. I have made arrangements for him should he outlive me.

How long do red-eared sliders live?
Red-eared sliders usually live about 10 years in captivity because their nutritional requirements are not really met. Some tend to have weak shells are develop other ailments as a result of certain deficiencies at this age. Lucky sliders who are really well looked after, get good prepared and fresh food, enough sunshine and exercise have been known to reach about 30 years of age. But that's really as long as it gets for sliders.

- with a decent keeper, about 10 years


- in far too many cases, about 18 months.

The problem is that most keepers don't take the time to learn the REAL rules to keeping these guys happy!
Reply:Turtles in captivity can live to over 40 years old. Young turtles will have a vibrant shell color and markings. As these turtles age, shell color tends to darken and markings will fade extensively, including the "red-ears".





A lifespan of 10-20 years is also common too

Reply:i know much of these sliders.I had one for a while.They can live for 15-25 years average.





As long as there's a good mix plant and animal material they can live up to 30 years.Make sure they r getting exercise during daylight when they are most active!
