Why are WhiteCastle hamburgers called,"Sliders"?

When I lived in StLouis we called them sliders because they were so greasy they'd just slide down your throat and right out the other end. No effort needed.





Another good nickname for them was "belly bombers".





God, I miss St Louis.

Reply:All the above answers are correct, but, there are three other interesting bits of trivia. One, there are many other places where burgers are called sliders, mostly by the locals in each area. Two, tha militar tends to call any burger a slider, and three, there is a resaurant up here that calls thier mini burger sliders on thier menu.
Reply:Dude, SERIOUSLY, I didn't know that! But man are they good! I do love cheeseburgers, but I prefer WhiteCastles with no cheese; it seems like the cheese in this case kills the flavor of the burger instead of enhancing it!
