Reply:22 years is the oldest well-documented captive age record, with 10-15 years being fairly common for proper care. Hatchlings have an estimated lifespan of a few months in captivity without high-quality care.

They routinely get to 6-8" long, with bursts of up to 10".

Hatchlings are actually pretty hard to care for well- especially if wild caught. If it IS wild caught, it is strongly recommended that it be released back ASAP (mostly for its own health, but also because in most of the US it was against the law to collect it anyway.)

Try the site below for more info:
Reply:They can live 30+ years.
Reply:They are the hardest to take care of when they are young. Once they get older, they are fairly easy. They are mostly aqautic, but you need to provide them rocks, or wood to get out of the water. They can get around 5 to 6 inches long after they are about 5 years old.

I would also recommend that once it gets over a few inches long to get a water filtration system (like for fish) to use in the tank you are keeping it in. They can get their tanks really dirty, real quick, so the filter helps keep it clean and from stinking like pond water.

The below site has some good info.
