I recently purchased a home with existing french patio doors that are an odd length. They are 5' 4". I need to replace them, but can not find anyone that can make that size. I don't know where the previous home owners got these doors from. Most places tell me that I can order a 6' door but I would have to have my heating and electrical moved since there is not enough room on either side to expand without moving these things. I really don't have the money to have the opening made larger %26amp; have an electrician %26amp; plumber come in. Does any one know where I could possibly find a place that makes this odd size? I would consider either french doors or sliders. What ever would fit. Thank you!
Custom patio french door or sliders 5'4" (64") ?
I know 3 people I used to work with who are now retired %26amp; just love to do challenging woodworking like this. There have got to be people like that where you live, too.
Maybe put an ad in your local Pennysaver, or whatever the title is of a small community newsletter that has classified ads for home repair, etc. Or post 3/5 index cards on a bulletin board in local stores.
Plus, word of mouth. Ask everyone you know if they know of someone who does woodworking/builds doors %26amp; windows.
I keep saying woodworking, because French doors are a much better thing than sliders for security, maintenance %26amp; longevity.
Good luck!!
Reply:I don't know where you live, but there are at least 2 different places in eastern Nebraska that will make just about anything you need. You need to find a window and door shop that custom makes most of their items right there, not just someone who stocks pre-made items and then installs them.
